Puddles, soggy spots, water against your foundation, or a slope that washes out? We design drainage and grading solutions that fit your yard and Atlanta’s clay soil.
Why Atlanta Yards Have Drainage Problems
Much of Atlanta sits on dense red clay that soaks up water slowly. Add heavy summer storms, winter rains, and yards that slope toward the house, and water has nowhere to go. The result is standing water, dead patches of grass, mud, washed-out mulch, and in the worst cases, water in the crawl space or basement. Fall and winter are when a lot of homeowners notice it, because the rain keeps coming and the ground stays wet.
Signs You Need Drainage Work
- Puddles that stay for a day or more after rain
- Soggy, mushy, or mossy areas of the lawn
- Water pooling against the foundation or running toward the house
- Erosion, bare ruts, or washed-out areas on a slope
- Mulch or soil that keeps washing into the yard, driveway, or street
- Sod or grass that dies in the same low spot every year
Drainage Solutions We Install
Every yard is different, so we look at where the water comes from and where it needs to go, then choose the right fix. Depending on your yard, that may include:
- French drains: buried drainage pipe that collects water and carries it away from problem areas.
- Dry creek beds: a natural-looking stone channel that guides runoff across a yard and slows erosion.
- Regrading: reshaping the ground so water flows away from the house instead of toward it.
- Flow well systems: underground chambers that collect and release water gradually.
- Erosion-control fabric: helps hold soil in place on slopes.

Yard Grading
Grading means reshaping the surface of your yard so water drains where you want it to. We use a bobcat and hand tools to level low spots, build gentle slopes away from your foundation, and prepare the ground for sod, patios, or retaining walls. Good grading often solves drainage problems without any pipes at all, and it’s the first step before laying new sod. See our land clearing and bobcat work for larger grading and prep projects.
A Recent Project: Creek Bank Drainage and Erosion Control
This project turned an eroded slope along a creek into a stable, usable space with a stone retaining wall, an integrated French drain, a dry creek bed, and a finished stone path. You can see more in our retaining walls and hardscaping section.

How to Get an Estimate
The best way to show us the problem is to text a few photos or a short video right after it rains, so we can see exactly where the water goes. Tell us the address and what you’re noticing, and we’ll put together an accurate quote. We serve Atlanta and nearby communities within about 15 miles, including Midtown, Buckhead, Grant Park, East Atlanta, Decatur, Dunwoody, and Sandy Springs. See all of our service areas.
