Sod & Grass Options
How to choose the best grass for your Atlanta yard.
We work with several local sod farms across the Atlanta area to source the best options for your yard’s sunlight, soil, and traffic conditions. Here’s an overview of the varieties we install most often:
| Grass | Sunlight Needed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Zeon / Geo Zoysia | 3+ hrs (most shade tolerant) | Premium quality, thin blades, slow grower, most weed resistant — our lowest-maintenance option |
| Emerald Zoysia | 4+ hrs | Similar appearance to Zeon/Geo at a lower price point; slightly more prone to weeds |
| Zenith / Meyer Zoysia | 4+ hrs | Most affordable zoysia varieties; thicker grass blades |
| Tif Way Bermuda | 6–8 hrs (full sun) | Fast-growing and self-repairing in bare spots |
| Celebration Bermuda | 6+ hrs | Rich color, good drought tolerance |
| Discovery Bermuda | 5+ hrs | Slightly more shade tolerant than other Bermuda varieties |
| Fescue | Cool-season, tolerates shade | Stays green through fall/winter/spring; needs more water and care in summer heat |
| St. Augustine | Full sun | Thick blade; not well-suited to Atlanta winters, better for warmer climates further south |
Zoysia Maintenance
Once established, keep a regular watering and mowing schedule. Recommended mowing height is ½–1½ inches. We recommend a soil test through your county extension agent to guide fertilizer choice — avoid nitrogen fertilizers until soil temperature at a 4-inch depth reaches 65°F and is rising.
